Rehabilitation & strengthening
Whether it’s addressing faulty biomechanics, poor mobility, muscle imbalances or recurrent injuries because of one or all of the above, we tailor treatment to you and your body. Rehab always has purpose, and our therapists explain the why, allowing you to be fully informed and engaged to take actionable steps towards a full recovery.
Our Physio’s are veterans in the sports and fitness world so expect your treatment to be sport specific, goal orientated and meaningful. Lauren has a background in competitive dancing, CrossFit, strength-training and running however with a strong understanding for how the human body works, we can tailor rehab to any sport and directly target weaknesses or the necessary steps to get you back to doing what you love.
Acupuncture and dry needling
Dry needling is an evidence-based treatment that involves inserting thin needles into trigger points or tight bands of muscle to relieve pain and tension. Often used in combination with other treatment strategies, additional benefits include:
Improved blood flow, promoting the natural release of pain-relieving chemicals i.e. endorphins
Improved range of motion
Enhanced athletic performance
Accelerated recovery
Acupuncture compliments conventional medicine also by providing pain relief. It can influence the autonomic nervous system including heart rate, breathing and blood pressure. It impacts the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system reducing stress, improving headaches, tension, improving digestion, hormonal balance, your immune system as well as better sleep. Ultimately enhancing recovery.
Myofascial cupping
Cupping involves a series of cups that once applied on the skin, create a vacuum effect suctioning up layers of tissue including skin, muscle and myofascia. Cupping works by stimulating pain thresholds, desensitizing the body from pain, it improves blood circulation and reduces inflammation. Other benefits:
Improved blood flow (vasodilation + capillary rupture, improving healing
Improved lymphatic movement (detoxifying)
Reduces pain
Physical WOF
Physiotherapists are great at screening the body for any faulty biomechanics or warning signs before an injury even occurs. Just as you would take your car in for a service to ensure it’s safe to drive, we often need to do the same when it comes to our physical health and wellbeing. A quick check in with your Physio can address niggles, aches and pains and improve your physical function through strength and better movement, keeping you optimally moving and continuing to do what you enjoy.
If you’re an athlete or if you take part in competitive sport or regular physical exercise, physio check in’s are even more important and can help you stay in the game for longer & enhance your athletic performance.
What to expect at your first appointment
F A Q S
Do I need a referral?
No! Book right in. We can do ACC forms in clinic.
What do I need to do prior?
You’ll be emailed a patient consent form to fill out online prior to your first session.
Please bring comfortable clothing and any relevant info ie. previous imaging/acc details if you have them already. If you don’t, no stress! We can sort this for you in clinic.
What happens during my first appointment?
After welcoming you in, the conversation is centred around you, your injury, problems you may be finding due to the injury and your goals. It’s important to also go over past injuries you may have had to see if there is a link. We get an understanding of your current lifestyle and how the injury possibly came about. We then with your consent begin our examination, to establish a diagnosis and then a treatment plan to move forward.
What if I need scans?
We will refer you on for imaging including xrays, ultrasounds or MRI via specialists if necessary.
What happens if I can’t make it?
Please give us as much notice as possible so someone else may be able to take your appointment.
Cancellations less than 3 hours will incur a $50 fee.
How is the parking?
Ramarama home studio ⇢ Park on the road or infront of fence. *Address provided once booked.
Empire Howick ⇢ Small carpark attached to gym or park in New World.
We don’t do anything without explaining things first or more importantly obtaining your consent.
There are loads of alternative treatment options that will equally improve your current injury/dysfunction.
What if I don’t like needling?
Want a second opinion?
Or, have you got multiple injuries?
We often get clients in for a second opinion on a current injury you may have had some trouble with. You are welcome to book in for a comprehensive assessment to guide you on the right path to recovery. We are solutions focused. So will ensure you get the right scans, referrals, treatment and medical advice.
Multiple injuries? We like to be thorough, so we have to treat multiple injuries in separate appointments, we aren’t looking for half jobs, right? We ensure you receive high quality care, without compromising the thoroughness needed for successful recovery.
